Pacman Did It Again!

The Philippine streets has been peaceful and quiet as the boxing bout of Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz is taking place. People are in their respective homes, eagerly watching the fight live from the cable television, while others watch on the cinema.

Well, this has been another great fight for Manny, which took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. He has proven again and again how tough he is and how much he deserved to be called the pound per pound king. Each round, Manny has showcased his strong and powerful punches, to which David Diaz acquired a bloody face and got knocked out at round 9.

Congratulations to Manny and a big hurrah to the new WBC Lightweight Champion.

A Chinese Love Story

Came across an incredible love story between two Chinese individuals, so I thought of sharing it here for everyone to read. It is a touching story about two people in love and hoping that this would apply to my marriage too (the eternal love, that is).

This is a story of a man and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half a century. Over 50 years ago, Liu Guojiang a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu Chaoqin. Friends and relatives criticized the relationship because of the age difference and the fact that Xu already had children. At that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman. To avoid the market gossip and the scorn of their communities, the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern ChongQing Municipality.

In the beginning, life was harsh as they had nothing, no electricity or even food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used to light up their lives. Xu felt that she had tied Liu down and repeatedly asked him, 'Are you regretful? Liu always replied, 'As long as we are industrious, life will improve.'

In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily. Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the over 6,000 hand-carved steps. Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, 'My parents loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over 50 years and never been apart a single day. He hand carved more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience, although she doesn't go down the mountain that much.'

The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years until last week. Liu, now 72 years, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband as he passed away in her arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no one was able to release the grip he had on his wife's hand even after he had passed away.

In 2006, their story became one of the top 10 love stories from China , collected by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government has decided to preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

This kind of story is no longer common nowadays. I seldom see men that loving and gentle with their wives or girlfriends (no offense, just a personal opinion and observation).

Anyway, be inspired with this story with the hope that eternal love be with you all. Have a great weekend.

Time After Time

Since our office implements the flexi-time scheme, I used to wake up at around 7:30 already and usually goes to work at 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. already. I usually sleep not earlier than 10:00 p.m. during evenings that is why waking up earlier than 7:00 a.m. is doubtly realizable.

Now that my daughter is already in Grade 1, it is imperative for us to wake up even when the sun is not yet still up. The sound of alarm from my cellphone every 5:30 a.m. had always forced me to get up from bed (saturdays and sundays, exempted). Her classes starts at 7:00 so everything must be set before 6:30 while the remaining 30 minutes would be our travel time in going to school.

It has been three weeks from the start of classes and right now, I am feeling weary already of this situation. Hope I could recover from the weariness and can fully adjust to the new time pattern that we are in now.

I also pity my daughter. If I am starting to feel the stress already, how much more for a 6 year old kid who is, by the way, asthmatic?

My Afternoon Snack

Mmmm....there goes my first bite of my great afternoon snack for this day. I was alone in the office right now so I have the opportunity to indulge to one of my favorite snack, the sweetened banana (minatamis na saging).

I bought this at a cafeteria in front of my daughter's school, which costs Php7.00 per piece. It may be a bit costly but it is worthwhile for me because aside from being my fave, it really tastes good. Every bite is heavenly, especially this one which has some jack fruit with it. I seldom see this kind being sold outside, so every time I see one, I buy them on impulse. Now, my afternoon is such a blast with these two pieces of banana on my table ready for consumption.

But hey, I am not that selfish enough. I will share these with you too, so feel free to grab one. Enjoy!

Sweatingly Yours.

I always have problems with my severe sweating. There are times really that I sweat a lot, even if little activity have been exerted. And what's worse, my hands are always wet, which makes me uncomfortable all the time. I usually don't shake hands with new comrades, because I fear they might be turned off with my sweaty palms. At work, it is really uneasy to hit those computer keyboards with sweat moistening my fingers. With the paperworks, everything would be messy as soon as my hand touches them. In stressful times, I also felt the sweating coming out. Whenever I am nervous, scared, or even overjoyed, perspiration has already made its grand existence. There may be times that my hands are dry all day long, but more often, it is really damp.

Sweaty hands, according to experts, are medical conditions which are called palmar hyperhidrosis. The extent of sweating is varied and may range from moderate moisture to dripping. This condition is not temporary and just like me, people who have this suffered it since childhood. The ultimate cause is still unknown, but it is believed that it is due to some portions of our nerves. Each human being has the involuntary nervous system, which is made up of two components, the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. The sympathetic nervous system controls the sweating throughout our body and people who have over-active sympathetic nerves most likely produce more sweat.

There are medical and surgical treatments available in order to cure the said condition. The medical treatments includes the application of certain astringents and sedatives. I am eyeing for the medical treatment, and hopefully soon I could have one. I'm not sure yet if the costs would be affordable though, like the Botox.

Sweat, sweat go away!

Congratulations Celtics!

My hubby has always been a basketball fanatic. He used to play way back in high school and even in college. He is an avid viewer of basketball games both the local and the NBA.

He loves Kobe Bryant. I used to like the sport long ago too, in my college days. I was way too obsessed with Scottie Pippen, which until now I have no idea as to why. Chicago Bulls has been my favorite team and I even collected NBA cards, magazines and books about the team. I had to skip classes then, just to watch their games live on the television, and I made my own tally of their winnings and losses. Well, that was part of my memorable past now. Back to hubby, his current fave is the Los Angeles Lakers, to which Bryant is the key player.

Excitement filled him upon knowing that the Lakers are off to the finals. The more it thrilled him to know that it's Lakers vs. Celtics who are facing off for the title, which reminded him of the good old days on L. Bird's and K. Jabbar's consistent rivalry.

Sadly enough, the Lakers lost in the series and granted the championship title to the Boston Celtics. There was a bet going around their office where the Celtics came out as the underdog. He really wanted to place his bets for the Lakers. It's fortunate that he didn't because big bucks would have been lost...tsk...tsk...tsk. Anyway, the Celtics also deserved to win. They have a great line-up of players, who are all big contributors to their success.

Congratulations!

My Social Has Sparked!

Now here's a social community that lets you earn by blogging while making online friends and building relationships. SocialSpark came to existence with the utmost intent of bringing together bloggers to get to know each other, through their forums, blogs or just by browsing through profiles.

I was really glad that this blog was approved by SocialSpark. Upon browsing through, there are lots of opportunities in store for every blogger who signed up, even for the newbies and those whose page ranks were not that high yet. Moreover, prices of these opportunities are fair so bloggers could really have a great time as far as earning is concerned. Not only that, members could also create opportunities for fellow bloggers.

Personally, I already have gained some friends at SocialSpark, and somehow received some props (thumbs up) from some of them. My profile is slowly gaining some views and it gives me a feeling of belongingness already. Just recently, I have made a friend through A Mom with Brownies, and I am happy to note that she already have a large number of friends, with plenty of props and page views.

This is indeed a great venue for me to know other bloggers, and earn some financial blessings!

This is a paid post.

The Wonder of Malunggay

One may take it for granted but Malunggay (also known as Moringa) is blessed with countless nutritional elements and values, which can be found in any part of its physical structure - - be it the leaves, the trunk, flowers, seeds and roots. They belong to the horseradish family, which originated from India. It has more than 80 kinds of name from all over the world.

When I was young, I was forced to eat those small green leaves floating in the vegetable soup. I had no choice back then but to abide and to which, I came to like it. My father also was an avid eater of malunggay that sometimes would stick on one of his tooth. We had a number of trees being planted way back then, and I remembered our neighbors asking for some, every now and then.

Various illnesses can be treated using the malunggay. Its roots can be used as a treatment for fever and asthma. Its leaves could also be used by people suffering with liver problems. Tender malunggay leaves also reduce phlegm and are administered internally for scurvy and catarrhal conditions while the flowers are used to heal inflammation of the tendons and abscesses. Unripe pods can prevent intestinal worms, while the fruit also can prevent eye disorder.

A study has been obtained from Japan Food Analysis Center Foundation and detailed down the wonders of the plant:

1) 13 times the Vitamin A of Spinach.
2) 50 times the vitamin B-2 in sardine
3) 20 times the Vitamin E in rapeseed oil.
4) 63 times the kalium in milk.
5) 31 times the iron in spinach.
6) 2 times the Amino-acid in black vinegar.
7) 4 times the Vitamin B in pork meat
8) 50 times the Vitamin B-3 in peanut
9) 30 times the GAba in germination brown rice
10) 20 times the calcium in milk.
11) 36 times the Magnesium in egg.

Malunggay also can prevent global warming because it has a rate of absorption/ assimilation of carbon dioxide that is 20 times higher than that of the general vegetation.

There are many uses of malunggay, not just as an additional ingredient for soups. And so, for a healthier you, malunggay is in the rescue.

A Story of Brilliance

Got this nice story from my inbox few days ago, but I happen to read it just now. It is quite humorous so I thought of sharing it here.

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her faithful aged poodle named Cuddles along for company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!' Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old poodle exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?'

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. 'Whew!' says the leopard, 'That was close! That old poodle nearly had me!'

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, 'Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving
canine!

Now, the old poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle says.

'Where's that damn monkey? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!

The moral lesson?
Don't mess with old farts .. age and ingenuity will always overcome youth and skill! Brilliance only come with age and experience.

Hope this has got you smiling and thinking. Have a great week ahead!

Happy Father's Day

Today marks another special day for all the men who have continuously supported and provided everything for their families, especially their kids, FATHERS. Fathers are blessed by God in order to give the basic necessities of their children for their proper physical growth and emotional and mental guidance as they journey through life.

To all the fathers in the world, here's a cheer of greetings with the hope that you continue what God has tasked you and produce the best kids that this world needs.

To my hubby, thank you for being a great dad to our three wonderful kids. This gratitude that I felt may not be uttered most often but just want to let you know that all your efforts were never put to waste and were definitely appreciated. You have always been there for us, most especially on times of difficulties and trials. God bless on all your endeavors.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

SPAM!

A lot of spam mails have landed on my email accounts of both yahoo and gmail. I don't have any idea what these spammers are up to, but they are becoming huge in number and different sender have already emerged.

There's this mail informing me that I won on this or that contest. Then there are some who would pretend to be heirs, or recipients of a huge sum of money who were asking for some assistance and I could be rewarded with a percentage of that sum. All these mails involved a really big amount, so who wouldn't resist in this kind of offers, especially those who are still new to the cyberspace?

Another thing, I also received an email allegedly from paypal informing me that somebody is trying to hack my account, and they are asking for my information for update. I was about to give my information but fortunately, my instincts told me to go to the paypal website and check it out for myself.

All I can say is BEWARE.

Independence Day

A hundred and ten years ago, the Philippine independence was declared at the home of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, who then became the first president of the country. The said declaration was done amidst thousands of people by unfurling the Philippine flag, together with the singing of the national anthem, Lupang Hinirang. This is an event the Filipinos have fought for.

The independence came to view as the Spanish regime ended and the Filipinos finally are freed from the agony of being captives of the country's colonizers.

Today is June 12, the Philippine's Independence Day...

Pink Ribbon Tag

Here's a tag from Ella and this is different because we get to blog for a good cause.

Cancer is one cause of millions of deaths around the world and Breast Cancer is the 2nd common type of cancer next to lung cancer. Let's save lives by spreading this tag.

• The first sign of breast cancer usually shows up on a woman's mammogram before it can be felt or any other symptoms are present.
• Risks for breast cancer include a family history, atypical hyperplasia, delaying pregnancy until after age 30 or never becoming pregnant, early menstruation (before age 12), late menopause (after age 55), current use or use in the last ten years of oral contraceptives, and daily consumption of alcohol.
• Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival.
• Ninety-six percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years.
• Over eighty percent of breast lumps are not cancerous, but benign such as fibrocystic breast disease.
• You are never too young to develop breast cancer! Breast Self-Exam should begin by the age of twenty.

Resources: American Cancer Society National Cancer Institute Komen Foundation

You can help the lives of many women by spreading the word about The Breast Cancer Site pink button as many times as you can. FHM 100 Sexiest

June 15 is just around the corner... and FHM Philippines will be having its list of Top 100 Sexiest Women for 2008.

Well, in this regard, let me have the opportunity to campaign for a friend, Ms. Saicy Aguila so that she be included in the prestigious list. There are many ABS-CBN stars considered for the top 100, but let us give this sexy lass from Bacolod a chance to show off what she got, which is extremely flaunt-worthy! She also made it on Maxim Top 100 by landing on the no. 99th spot and I do hope FHM enthusiasts would also support her.

You can vote online or through text. Click the photo to enlarge and get a better view of the codes. Deadline is on June 15.

Back To School!

It's school time once again. It may be just an ordinary event on every young individuals, but as a parent of an incoming Grade 1 pupil, this is something different.

I should say that I am thankful my daughter Nikki got qualified at SPED (Special Education), because she would get to have the quality education at low cost (since it is a public school). It is such a privilege for every student to belong to such humble institution, considering that most of its kids have made names in various quiz bowls, and other academic and skill contests. This will be a long journey for me, as I will be hand in hand with my daughter in her pursuit for quality education. It may be a pressure but we will see until we get there.

Aside from the privilege, I got thrilled with the new time schedule. Unlike in the preschool, where classes just lasts about 2 to 3 hours per day, well the primary school isn't. This time, we went to school at 7am, meaning...I get to wake up at 5:30am just to get things readied up. I woke up Nikki at 6am, so she can take her bath and eat her breakfast. Today is really a first time for both of us. And the lunch...she ate it at school (another first time) this noon.

Their class ended at 3:30pm, long hours indeed for my little girl.

I am hoping that she could very well adapt to the changes, because ases like these are inevitable. But I am proud that she made it through day 1, without me by her side (well...I was there to send her to her room and to fetch her only because i was also busy with my son who's now a nursery pupil).

Day 2 is on the way and so on...

Bangs Are In.

Bangs are back in the show. Various celebrities have already joined in and I must admit that they look good with those cuts. Bangs definitely gives a new look out of the person, whether it looks good or bad. Few celebrities that I find very pretty with bangs are Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie. Even Katie Holmes looked good with her bangs, although it made her appear more mature.

Well, why am I posting about bangs? Aside from being the "in" thing, I really wanted to have one. Unfortunately, I am not blessed with a nice hair, it does not have a full body and shiny strands. The bangs would just fall flat on my forehead. I hope one day I could have them and they would just lay perfectly (haha!).

Have a great Thursday, people.

Thanks Social Spark!

Bloggers - - we all know that the beauty with blogging is endless. We get to pour out our hearts and minds just by fondling our fingers on the keyboard. Blogging is our means of releasing our thoughts and views about everything, from the concrete to the abstract form.

Of course, aside from the privilege of putting into words the thoughts we have in mind, blogging also gives us the way to gain friends over the net and the prestige to be known. We meet new comrades along the way through hopping blogs and signing up on directories.

Blogging is also a great way to earn money online. That is made possible by SocialSpark, a site that intends to extend services to internet enthusiasts with the desire to earn money, build community and drive traffic. They create a new milestone in blog marketing, where everybody could benefit. Bloggers could earn and with the huge lot of opportunities in its marketplace, chances of earning more are very clear and evident. Advertisiers, on the other hand, would get a handful of traffic through posts by bloggers.

Social Spark has maintained its code of ethics, to which I am impressed. These are as follows:

100% audit-able in-post disclosure

100% transparency

100% real opinions

100% search engine friendly

As a blogger, I am very much thrilled for getting their approval to be part of their team and am looking forward for a great online journey with them. One could never go wrong with SocialSpark.

Feminine Spray

I was intrigued with the advertisement of Biolink on their new product about feminine hygiene, which features Ms. Anne Curtis. Their product is called the Tea Tree Oil Fem Spray, which is used to spray that feminine area after bathroom use. The spray contains tea tree oil, which is believed to be a great ingredient for feminine cleansing.

Being curious that I am, I bought one and have a try. Well, it works good on me and now I am bringing it along with me wherever I go, so that when I hit to the comfort room, I would still feel clean and fresh.

To use, just spray it on the area and wipe off with feminine wipes. If I am out of wipes, I'm good with tissue as an alternative.

Flip-Flops Causes Foot & Leg Pain?

I have always been a fan of flip-flops. I wear them even at the office because they are very comfortable and light. Flip-flops has become very popular especially here in the Philippines. Different brands of the footwear has emerged every now and then and I observed that they did well on their sales.

Unfortunately, researchers at Auburn University at Alabama came up with a finding that people who wear flip-flops took shorter strides and their heels hit the ground with less vertical force than when they wear sneakers. A group of college-aged men and women were tapped for this study and were required to walk on a platform to observe the difference. what they saw was that people wearing flip-flops alter their gait, which explains the presence of lower leg and foot problems.

One researcher said that people wear the wrong footwear all the time. Flip-flops are not meant to be used for walking a lot, he said, since there are lots of appropriate wear around, like the walking shoes.

Well, I haven't experience any pain yet, although one time or another I felt something beneath my heel. But one thing's for sure at the moment, I will not part with my flip-flops.

River In A Cave

I was checking through the New 7 Wonders website today (June 2) and found out that the four natural wonders from the Philippines are on the Top 10. That is very nice to know and hoping that Filipinos and even people of other nationalities would continue to support such wonderful and amazing sceneries.

I have already posted an entry last April featuring the beauty of Chocolate Hills and the Tubbataha Reef which were consistently on top of the live rankings.

Among the 4 Philippine wonder-nominees, I have been to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park only, which is located in Palawan. I should say that the place is raw, you can hear all kinds of insects, emitting their respective sounds, with various animal species on sight for local residents and tourists to behold. Its a good thing we brought with us an insect repellent. Of course, the wonder of it is the underground river, which is found beneath a very high rocky mountain.

The national park has a very natural feel. It is indeed a forest, with a beautiful beach before its entrance and a cool icy river within. As we waited for our turn to enter the cave, we had the opportunity to wander through the vicinity and it was really a great and new experience. Even the sands on the river is white, to which I was amazed. On the picture, we had our smiles captured first as we are on board the boat going into the cave.

This is the exterior view of the cave, the rocky mountains. Notice the sparkling white beach. Really nice.

As we went in, we were awed by the sight that welcomed us. The stalactite formations were magnificent especially the praying Virgin Mary and the big mushroom, which were really something that made us voice aloud our "ohs" and "ahs" in wonder. Wait, there's more (home TV shopping network mode...)! There's a formation of a sexy lady which they named Sharon Stone. And the bats, ooohhh...there are many of them. They look so cute hanging in line on those rocky walls. Inside the cave, we felt a little creepy but somehow as you go along, the amazement steps in.

This picture is taken on our way out of the cave.

Another thing, those boat men effortlessly spoke English! And they knew the place very well. Kudos!

Vote for the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park at the New 7 Wonders.
