Home Remedies

Even though how much we avoid minor infirmities, we could not avoid them. They come to our household in the least expected circumstance and most unwelcome manner. But nonetheless, when they have already taken their place, what would be the things to do in order to get rid of them at no cost (meaning, no medicines and hospital expenses).

Well, there are some home remedies that could somehow help us cure minor infirmities. These are simple and I am very glad to know such.

Does it ever cross your mind that Colgate Toothpaste could make an excellent salve for burns? Well, think again because they could.

Got sore throat? Have one-fourth cup of vinegar mixed with one-fourth cup of honey. Take one tablespoon six times in a day and expect your sore throat to be gone! The vinegar kills the bacteria causing the sore in the throat.

Make your toenails clean and healthy again! Get rid of those ugly and unwanted toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine Mouthwash. The antiseptic is very good in eliminating the germs, leaving your toes fresh and clean.

For splinters, just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue to the area where the splinter is located. Let it dry and peel off the dried glue. Observe that the splinter sticks to the glue.

Do you have urinary tract infections? Well, now you can have a cure with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water, and drink it as soon as the symptom starts.

Bid adieu to skin blemishes with honey. Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a band-aid over it. In the process, the honey kills the bacteria within and keeps the skin sterile. Likewise, it speeds up the healing.

Gotta try them, and no more worries on costly medicines.

ABS-CBN vs GMA

The war between the two giant Philippine television networks has been brewing for so long now, and we still don't have any idea when it's gonna end. I don't know how it all began, but I should say that this war has also created some rifts among its avid viewers. Many Kapamilya viewers (where I am one) are ever-ready to defend their favorite network, and same with those Kapuso viewers.

VS

Many artists have come and go, hopping from one network to the other, with the hope that the big switch will further elevate the status of their respective careers. Very recently, Heart Evangelista transferred to GMA 7, with the hope that her boyfriend Jericho Rosales will follow her, haha...you wish! Many said that she is a good riddance since she has changed a lot. Meanwhile, the Kapamilya network is welcoming Billy Joe Crawford as part of their family, being the new host to the show, Pinoy Dream Academy 2.

Well, as viewers, we'll just watch out how their career moves will fare. But for the meantime, my loyalty still remains with ABS-CBN, even though there are times that they kept me disappointed.

Which network are you?

My Son's Birthday

Happy Birthday, Carl Jonathan! Mommy, Daddy, Ate Nikki and Kuya Nikkos loves you!

Benefits of Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise is an activity that is widely performed by individuals hoping to lose weight. Others do it for their own health reasons.

Aerobics is an extended activity that makes one breathe long and hard and boosts up the heart rate, which eventually improves endurance. It makes the heart stronger and more efficient. Its activities includes, but not limited to: brisk walking, jogging, aerobic dancing, and swimming. Aerobic exercises also uses up the excess calories stored in the body that would turn out to be fats in the long run if not utilized, thereby making it an effective activity for weight control. Aerobics also helps counteract stress, and as a result, anxieties are eased away as the tensed muscles are relaxed.

Likewise, there is a research that has studied the link between aerobic exercise and mental performance of the brain among adults. Researchers have found out that when healthy adults undergo improvement on their fitness, there are improvement in their mental abilities as well, like in their memory or attention. A series of studies and investigations have been conducted and came to the conclusion that the improvements in mental abilities brought about by aerobic activities are explained by the progress in cerebral blood flow, leading to increased brain metabolism. The increase in metabolism stimulates the production of neurotransmitters and formation of new synapses. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that carry messages between nerve cells, and synapses are the connections through which this communication takes place.

Reap the benefits now and have a healthy heart, mind and body. Even cats do, haha!

Is Crying Good?

There are really times when we feel very down, as if the whole world is against us or when everything seems to be not in its proper place. There are times when people, especially our loved-ones, hurt us, whether intentionally or unintentionally. But whatever the intentions may be, we have to let out the hurt and anxiety and one way of releasing it is through crying.

Personally, I cry when everything seems to be incomprehensible. When I am caught in the web of sadness, I take time to be alone and cry my heart out until there are no more tears left. But is crying good?

It is a common knowledge among us that crying is therapeutic. It is an individual's form of release of something that is dwelling inside...(tensions, anxieties, sorrows). Most people felt better after the tears fell, with the heaviness fading away. If these tensions are not released, they will find some other outlet which would eventually affect the body, thereby causing illness.

So, it is not bad to wet your pillows once in a while. Never keep your worries inside. Let it out.

Jackfruit

I was having some great indulgence over jackfruit tonight. Now my stomach is very heavy and full, I just hope that jackfruits do not contribute additional pounds on my weight because I so much love the fruit and I am on a diet. This is an all-time favorite of mine. It is a good thing there are lots of jackfruit emerging from our tree, but unfortunately, they are getting smaller and smaller. I guess that is due to its age. But its sweetness and juicyness never vanished. It is still the same. Mmmm.....

By the way, the scientific name of jackfruit is Artocarpus heterophyllus.

New 7 Wonders of the World

Philippines is undoubtly one of the countries in the world that is blessed with great natural sites. Composed of more than 7,ooo beautiful islands, it has many breathtaking and magnificent marks that definitely captured the fancies of many tourists and local residents alike.

There are many Philippine wonders being nominated to be part of the New 7 Wonders of the World. I was checking on their live rankings and found out that the Chocolate Hills of Bohol is already in the 6th spot. Hope we could still help it climb up the ranks so that for sure it will belong to the top 7. The Chocolate Hills has always been a popular destination of tourists and local residents and we must help stay it that way by voting for the great landmark.

Another great wonder that is now on the number 13th spot is the Tubbataha Reef, located at the Sulu Sea, Philippines. It is a marine sanctuary protected as Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park. There are over one thousand species that can be found in this reef, which also includes those that were already endangered. These include manta rays, lionfish, tortoises, clownfish and sharks. This wonder is still 6 spots away to be included in the final list of wonders so let us help the Tubbataha Reef and vote for it.

Other natural wonders of the Philippines are also nominated. Please take time also to go over them and vote. You can cast your votes on New 7 Wonders Have a blessed week ahead!

On Heart Attacks

I haven't got the chance to go online last night because our internet modem at home was turned off and the room where it was situated was locked. And so this morning, I was amazed to see that I have 43 new mail messages in my inbox (whoa!!). I noticed one mail with the subject Heart Attacks and really find the article attached to be helpful.

The message enumerated some common symptoms of heart attack. It says that not all attack is manifested by the left arm hurting, but be aware that there might also be an intense pain in the jaw line. Usually 60% of the people having the heart attack while on sleep may not wake up anymore, but the pain in the jaw could still wake that person up. Chest pain is also very common, but nausea and intense sweating could also be experienced during the attack.

For people who want to prevent such illness, they can drink warm water. Why?

The Japanese and Chinese drink hot tea together with their meals and not cold water. The cold water will only solidify the oily stuff that have just been eaten and consequently slows down the digestion. These lumps of solid will be harder to eliminate and eventually stays on the intestine lines, turning into fats. Moreover, hot water, especially when consumed through sips, also purifies the nervous system from deposits that suppress one's thoughts and emotions and delivers one from tension. Hot water is also used to provoke perspiration in order to purify the body.

- - So, wanna try? I'll try this one too.

Pay Increase...Hurray!!!

The headlines in the newspaper brought some smile to my lips . . . GMA: Hike Workers Pay.

Well, at least the news for today not only featured those heart-wounding ones. Amidst the increases in commodity prices, there still lies some good updates. According to the news, President Arroyo ordered the regional tripartite wage boards to convene to determine wage increases for workers in the private sector.

The good news did not just stop there. Being a government employee, here's the delightful part of the news:

State employees are also expected to get a pay increase. The President will grant national government employees a 10-percent increase in their basic pay, according to the Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya. Andaya said Friday the President would issue by May 1 an executive order granting state employees the pay increase starting July 1.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one. If it came out as true, then hurray! It may be a small difference, but 10 percent is already something...haha!

Just How Important is Sleep?

Now that I am off to the deal with hubby about losing weight (to which my doctor also advised since my cholesterol and sugar are on the rise), I am more than excited to see the results. It may be very premature right now to witness the changes, but I am really doing my best to make a difference.

I got an email featuring the importance of sleep in losing weight.

Long ago, it has dawned upon me that sleeping causes weight gain. I was so fond of sleeping way back in college that it almost made me flunk, and what I really remembered back then was that I have gained so much weight. Maybe I have disregarded the fact that I also ate lots during those times. Now that I do not sleep that much (I usually sleep at 11pm on the average...and in between sleep I still have to wake up and feed my two boys), I still have gained weight. Now I see that there was no direct relationship between sleep and weight and so I have already dismissed my previous concept on sleep.

Just how important is sleep? According to experts, lack of sleep affects the level of certain hormones in the body, especially those responsible for the metabolic processes. Sleep loss makes a person hungry and would affect the body's metabolism. At the same time, lack of sleep or proper rest causes fatigue and 'run down' so the person won't have the enthusiasm to undergo the activities relative to weight loss, especially those physical activities that are rigid and requires sweating it out. Moreover, when working out, muscles are teared up but with proper sleep, those muscles are re-built.

And so, to have a good and deep sleep we all deserve, here are some of the things to be done in order to achieve it.

- Eat a healthy diet.
- Have a regular exercise routine.
- Undergo relaxing pre-bedtime rituals like warm baths and listening to soothing music
- Create a peaceful sleep environment.

Nice To Be Back.

I have been away from the internet and the office for one week. Now I am back in the office again and it feels so new again.

Well, things are really quite different now, with hubby being away and I am left to check on with the kids. But hey, I should look at the bright side of things and think that everything has a reason. And the reason surely is favorable to us.

Anyways, I am again nominated for week 104. Please vote for me again.

Long Distance Love Affair

Since Monday, I was already suffering with fever and colds which made my nose clogged. Then, later my blood pressure got high at 129/106 at the most. So I took some rest from work and the internet and managed to let down my bp. This morning, I underwent some laboratory tests as per doctor's orders and was worried when I found out that my sugar went to 103 while its borderline is only 100. What made it worse is that my cholesterol count also went up.

Well, enough about this because this is not what my title is all about.

My hubby has finally received his memorandum to assume office at Cagayan de Oro branch (CDO is about 4 hours away from our place). I am very happy for him because after six years of being a contractual, he was finally absorbed as a regular employee. The sad part is, he will report to CDO branch because that is where the vacant item is. Tomorrow, he will be going to CDO already.

Oh well, this is another long distance love affair for the third time around. The first time we were literally apart was when I had my review way back in 1999. We were still bf/gf then. The second time was when he was assigned at CDO to perform his on-the-job training which took about one and a half years. It is really hard to be away from the family, especially with the kids.

Nonetheless, what matters now is that my hubby's income is increased threefolds since he is now a regular employee. I guess this is just a blessing in disguise since his job application with our office has been disregarded and put on hold due to interventions from envious persons whose reasons are very inconsistent from the actual scenario. Well, at least my hubby still got what he wished for, and much much more, haha!

Guess I'll start singing this song again... "wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you...whatever it takes, or how my heart breaks, I will be right here waiting for you".

Funny Pictures

My friend/officemate emailed me these pics with corresponding captions that somewhat made me smile. For me, they are funny so I wanna share the same here so that you too could get some few chuckles.

Tattoo of the Year...

This is what sorry looks like.

This is what sad looks like.

I'd rather hold it...

Hope you had some good laughs at these pictures. Gotta exercise those jaws.

Hair Care

The hair is the crowning glory of a person, especially on the ladies. It affects the physical appearance of an individual, and reflects what kind that person is. I for one is not blessed with a beautiful hair...(although way back my elementary and high school days, they said I had soft and shiny hair). Now, my hair is dry, dead..(don't know the exact term, sorry!) and dull.

For people out there who are more concerned about their hair than anything else, I have stumbled upon some tips for healthy hair.

Split Ends

According to hair experts, split ends are the result of damaged or weathered hair. The hair's cuticle (or the outer layer) was worn away causing it to splay apart. This condition is very common. But hey, nothing to worry about this dilemma because according further to experts, split ends can be stripped right off. It will definitely help if the hair ends is well-conditioned, meaning... conditioners are regularly applied to the hair. A reminder: shampoos are for the scalp while conditioners work on the hair.

Dandruff

They say that dandruff is hereditary, you think so? I guess they are right. Though the mystery remain as to the cause of dandruff, it may be due to external factors. Upon the presence of those flakes, our first defense would be the anti-dandruff shampoos, but then, they can be very harsh to the hair fibers, according to the experts. And so, alternate the use of anti-dandruff shampoo and a regular one.

Overcoming Stress

Stress usually hits us every now and then, due to pressures on work, financial worries, interpersonal conflicts, physical illnesses and a whole lot more. It is somewhat inevitable every time we encounter all these circumstances. As much as possible, we try to avoid it, but without us knowing, stress has already captured our system and has found its way to our minds.

Of course, it is a common fact that stress is a negative emotion. It makes people feel down and out, despite peer encouragements and all. It makes a person feel unrelaxed.

One better cure for stress or negative emotions is breathing. That may sound very general but this really works. It is the breathe that associates all the agitation in life, its movement commanded by emotions which is released through giving out sighs, or groans.

Thoughts and emotions have a forcible influence on the brain. With each emotion, hormones are released. And so stress, which is a negative emotion, affects the body in a negative way. By learning the natural rhythms of breathing, one can then identify the link between breath and negative emotions and in the process, be able to produce a calming effect and positive outlook.
